Hairspray-Mockup.png

Inspiration

This project, being based on the Psychedelic era, was heavily inspired by Wes Wilson and Victor Moscoso. The piece melds aspects from Wes’s piece on the right Otis Rush & His Chicago Blues Band where the text seems to be melting away and is combined with posterized image treatments like Victor’s works below.

Hairspray Poster

A poster for the play “Hairspray” in a psychedelic style. The psychedelic movement took place from the 1960s through the 1970s. As I researched for this project, I looked at influential designers like Victor Moscoso and Wes Wilson. The colors they used vibrated violently against each other and the shapes of the letters created shapes and sat in other shapes. I was especially inspired by Victor Moscoso, in one of his posters, he placed text inside of a jacket and warped it to fit nicely. In a different poster, he outlined the shape of a female figure multiple times and alternated color.
